Medical marijuana has been around for a long time, and the government has grown it since. The first prescriptions for it that I'm aware of came in the late 70's and early 80's. I saw photos of the actual prescription bottle, they were filled with per-rolled joints all ready to go.

I am not done it myself but I have done some research on the subject recently.
The methanol or most of it comes from grain so if you use a sugar and yeast only wash as in making rum most of the risk is eliminated
As long as you discard the first few ounces and don't do something stupid like use a car radiator as a condenser you should be safe.
