Even more tried & true: Mosin Nagant with bayonet. it fought against itself time and time again, always winning one way or another. M4 carbine has only been in service for 15 years, its fought maybe a hundred conflicts during its time. the Mosin has been service for over 100 years, and its been in thousands of conflicts. Despite obsolescence in world dominated by automatic weapons, mosins still see widespread use. and there's no sign of it being retired anytime soon.
I'd like a post-'08 Imperial Tula or Sestroryetsk M91 Mosin Nagant with the modern stepped rear sight for spitzer ball, and a modified (optimized) bayonet, featuring a chrome-lined blade rather than a spike. standard sling. white tipped front sight blade for easy visibility, rear sight ranges highlighted in yellow for easy use.

My '24 Izhevsk Dragoon Mosin Nagant is shockingly accurate. without trying, i pulled off 1" groups at 25 yards. i was just function-testing it that day, making sure my new rifle shoots. with a bit of effort, i easily made 2" groups at 100 yards.
Its not too heavy to move around with, its powerful & accurate, and if i get myself a good spot, I can pick zombies off fro ma great distance away. the excellent & precise ironsights makes high accuracy easy, I do not need a scope at all! I can be picking zombies off from 500 yards one second and then transition over to a zombie 15 yards away. can't do that if you have a scope!

M1 Garand. And to Mosin Nagant man up there, the wars fought with the Mosin weren't won because of the weapon, they were won by the shear number of the army that used them.

Accurate and precise are not words I've ever heard associated with the Mosin. Ever heard of minute of Mosin? It's accuracy is as far as you can throw the thing. Is that an unfair assessment? Probably, but there's at least a bit of truth in the statement also. So a Mosin at 500 yards? Ain't buying it. And the reason they're still being ued today? Probably because they're so damned cheap. If I were going with a milsurp bolt gun it would be something like a K98 Mauser, '03A3, or SMLE all of which are still in service somewhere also. Now if it's range I'm really worried about I'd take an M16A2 or A4. I can bang them out to 500-600 meters all day long. Though the M4 can reach that far I don't know how truly accurate it would be.

I would like a M-16 with a shotgun attachment. Sure, I don't know how to use it. I would learn, though. I would make damn well sure that I learned it.

The Army has started attaching a weird door breacher shotgun below some M4s. It looks rather akward and unwieldy. I'll withold jusdgment till I see what the end users ahve to say about it.

Instead of going with a weapon used by the military, I'd go with the mac 10. It's got a large clip and uses ordinary 9x19mm handgun ammunition, so you can loot it from pretty much any and all gun stores. It's got a great suppressor and if you put it on burst fire, you can take out small groups while conserving ammunition. It's range isn't great, but it's light and if need be you could duel wield two of them to make up for the lack of stopping power; and all you really need is enough power to go through a decomposing body .

My thought has always been that noise attracts zombies so I would be using silent weapons like crossbows for range and a big Axe for up close.
